Hey I do not know how to be a part of the "Setup" magazine within Flipboard, so I though of sharing with you my IT setup here. It would be great if you share what you use, in comments.
Hardware:
- Lenovo ThinkPad X220 12´´ (at work)
- Lenovo 24´´ Wide Monitor (at work)
- Logitech corded Mouse M125 silver (at work)
- Iphone 3GS 16GB (both work & private)
- Ipad 1st 16 GB (private)
- External drive Toshiba 1,5TB, which I plan to throw out after fully migrating my docs to greenqloud, I will keep you updated!
Software & organizing:
- Windows 7, Office 2010
- I generally do not use folders to store files, only the search function of Windows. I had been organizing in folders earlier, but it took loads of time to find anything. Now I have any file on my fingertips. Files older than a couple of months I store online (google drive, dropbox, sugarsync). Anyway, if you go for organizing your data without folders, files have to get a proper detailed name. I use Advanced Renamer to rename a bunch of files (I mean insert a "key" word into let´s say 100 files with different names to make them findable)
- Autohotkey is my personal number one when it comes to time saving when working in Windows. You can customize it to the commands you need most. Some examples of my commands are (first one means when I press windows button and space, google will open):

With windows spy (a special tool of autohotkey) I measure coordinates of some mouse clicks, then save the sequence, and do some otherwise boring repetitive calculation tasks with just one keyboard combination! It´s like doing a simple macros in excel, but for anything outside excel.
- SyncToy for any automatic files synchronizing
- Favourite apps: Audible (I have a 60 minute commute most days so listening to audio books is a great way to make productive use out of time). Now I am into 24h audio from Steve Jobs biography ))
- Skype (yearly subscribtion for calls in favourite country) and viber for calls to Russia
- My desktop (both laptop and working desk) is completely empty - this way I don´t get distracted. In general I print papers very seldom (last time was for some documents for my Swedish work permit) and am in principal paperless and stuffless.
My future setup
- Iphone 5 32GB
- Ipad 4
- Leap motion instead of mouse and keyboard - I want to control my computer in three dimensions with my hand and finger movements
- Greenqloud online storage of all my files - they are powered by Icelandic geothermal and hydropower energy. I love Iceland and I work with hydropower plants...
- Any good lifetracking apps without connection to social networks/facebook?
- Fitbit to monitor my whole day´s activity
